The Warrior Soccer program was an average program through 1996. It had a less than stellar winning rate of .355. One season had been lost when a player had been declared ineligible and all games forfeited. In 1997, Coach Keith Koehne took over as Head Coach. He brought winning ways with his .647 win rate and the first and only CHL championship. These Warriors also won 2 Sectional Championships. The Principle job at the Junior High beckoned and the Mr. Koehne title won out over the Coach Koehne title.
After a year as Assistant Coach to Logan Phillips, Joe Mehl took over as Head Coach in 2003 and continued the winning ways with his .646 win rate. He raised the bar with all the accomplishments listed above, especially the post-season success.
In times when there is a raging debate about handicapping private school athletic programs because:
Choose the one(s) that best fits your opinion:
- They afford the best coaching available
- Money does not limit them from playing in the best club programs
- Players can be drawn from anywhere and can be offered financial assistance.
- Private schools dominate tournament play disproportionately.
Mariemont competes with them all. This is not a typical public school. We pull tremendous coaching talent from the community. A player can play two sports in a season. Many players play club soccer in the off-season. We have a strong youth program. It enjoys tremendous community support. The crowd turnout for a regular season game has grown and the tournament support is second to none. The Warrior Nation is not put off by long treks; their Warriors need their support.
