CROSBY'S CORNER BATAVIA WEEK 2

It felt great winning our opener… it’s been a few years. Both our Varsity and JV teams played well for the first game but of course we can always find lots of room for improvement. A good team always gets better each week and that is our goal. Bethel Tate surprised us coming out with a new offense for part of the game and basically shoved the ball down our throats for part of the game. As the game wore on our defense played better and held them to 12 points but we need to work on getting tougher in the trenches. Our offense was never stopped with the exception of 2 interceptions and we did not have to punt all night. We balanced our running game quite well and completed 5/8 passes for 3 TD’S !!! I hope all the Warrior faithful who attended the game along with those of us who participated enjoyed the evening.
Batavia, coached by my longtime friend Ron Ogden brings a fairly young squad of talented and big players to Kusel Stadium. They had a tough opener with Madeira last week but I’m sure will come into the game well prepared and ready to challenge us in every phase of the game. We will also be honoring our Hall of Fame Class of 2010.
Players of the week: JV- Cole DeCamp     Off- Eric Nerl     Def- John Sunday   Spec- Chase Beach

April 2010 Letter to Parent

                                                                                                                           April, 2010

Dear MHS Football Parents,

I hope this note finds you and your family doing well and enjoying life. In an effort to help you make plans for the summer and throughout the upcoming football season I have attached a calendar for you. It is a 12 month calendar but just May thru October have football information. As you may know, my philosophy on summer is a bit different from many coaches. I believe summer is for family vacation, relaxation and recreation in less organized settings than what one experiences during the school year. Players are required to attend our camp the first week of June and attend 18/24 summer conditioning sessions in order to be in shape for the season but they will not be playing football around the clock, getting burned out before the season begins. Once August rolls around we will get started with conditioned athletes and refreshed coaches who are excited and ready to give 100% toward a successful football season.

Camp is basically 4 days of football introduction and a chance to learn our offense, defense , kicking game and overall practice routine. Helmets will be issued and worn. Note the first day, June 1, camp is in the afternoon due to teachers still being in school. The other 3 days we will meet in the morning.

Conditioning sessions throughout the summer are comprised of strength training, running and agility periods supervised by a football coach.  In the weight room, Freshmen will use mostly the Hammer Strength machines to get used to lifting in the proper manner while upper classmen will work more with the free weights that they have been training with throughout the year. The 18 required sessions allow for 2 weeks of vacation, etc. Attendance at athletic camps and the like may also count toward the 18. Sometimes players are out of town most of June and July and they must make out a workout schedule and have it ok’d by me before leaving town. The purpose of the 18 required sessions in order to start summer practice in August is to make sure all of our players are in relatively good shape for their own health and safety.

More communications will be sent as we get closer to summer and then the actual season. If questions arise feel free to email me. I will always do my best to keep you fully informed in regards to our football program throughout the year. GO WARRIORS

Best regards,

Tom Crosby
